Title: adding sub to system -- system integration help
Post by: matt99eo on February 01, 2010, 07:16:06 AM
All,

I want to experiment with adding a subwoofer to my system.  Currently I am running a Fostex 208EZ's with super tweeters off of a pair of Paramours (running Sophia Electric 300B, 2.V's :-), and a Hagtech Chime Linestage  (http://hagtech.com/chime.html (http://hagtech.com/chime.html))

The linestage only has one output pair.  I want to add the sub at the linestage level if possible for tuning.  Any suggestions on configuration and sub design and amplifier?

Check out the Speaker section below and click on the Sexy Speaker link and about 2/3's down there is a Hooking It Up part where it  talks about hooking up a subwoofer to the DIY Fostex Sexy Speaker.  I think the same principles may apply for you.

Cheers

A Y-cable or adapter would allow the preamp to drive both amps. This might be preferable with the AC-heated Paramour. Some subs will have a line-level input and output, allowing the amps to be placed by the sub(s) without using Y cables.

In the interest of less wiring, I am thinking of driving my subs by the speaker level inputs, simply jumping off the connections at the main speakers.  Would this result in as good a signal as using the line level sub inputs off the second set of Foreplay III outputs - my speakers are Paramount 300B.
