Does anyone have a link to to equipment stands to build up or buy? My new BeePre and Paramounts are too tall for my existing Sanus Euro Stands. I think I need 12" in height.

Expedit (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50103086/):)

You can set the spacing between the shelves - plus the look (and sound) great.

I'll second the Mapleshade rack idea. Fantastic racks, can double as jackstands for cement trucks (not really), and are very flexible, plus you can order new shelves if you want. Great sonics as well..

I can second Jim here. If you've got the dough to shell out for them, the Maple shades are a very solid build

I cannot fault such racks as Mapleshades' but how important is the sturdiness of a rack? I know, can-o-worms.

I have been very happy with the Salamander line. Looks nice, very well built, easily reconfigurable, good ventilation, easy wire routing, etc., etc.

The Mapleshade Samson is indeed attractive. It looks to me like an exceptional embodiment of the old "Flexi-Rack" concept (see linked picture), which uses threaded rods, nuts, and shelving to configure infinitely adjustable rack systems.
Borrowing from the Mapleshade concept, thick butcher block shelves aren't that hard to come by, threaded rod, nuts, washers and such can be had at local hardware stores (I got mine from McMaster-Carr)...heck, if the threads match, it looks like some of the bright shiny bits could be sourced from Mapleshade (as could shelves...check their sale items for a more reasonable deal on 2" shelf w/ isolator hardware).
I got all the hardware for a flexi, but never built it, opting instead for a massive (and dense) office cabinet from a surplus sale (think old TV console kind of looking thing - has a central cavity that can hold a R2R) onto which I placed an IKEA glass/steel coffee table on which to place some turntables, with the amps and pre-amps sitting underneath...perhaps not the best, sonically, but cost-effective and highly functional.
Ditto PB's Expedit recommendation - they make excellent LP storage and it looks kinda like they're used to showcase some hardware at Bottleheadquarters. You can find a lot of great pieces at IKEA that can be used or adapted for audio storage, etc. For example, I found some nice butcher block cutting boards there (about 18x24) for around $10 each that could be cadged together to make a Mapleshade knock-off flexi-rack...I got them to make a TT plinth, but you've got me thinking about the flexi again.

Ooops...forgot the link. Also can try googling 'flexi-rack' and searching this and other fora on the same term.

Just wondering, can you get 4' bolts? or are they shorter, and half into the nuts with the heads cut off?
That sounded kinda dirty and kinda questonable.
-
You can get "all thread" in 6 foot lengths at most home improvement stores. From an industrial supplier even longer.

I'll add a vote for Mapleshade. I recently added a shelf to accommodate my Bottlehead gear. The wood shelves are beautiful and solid.
I thought it was pricy, but once I saw the shelves, I decided it is a good value. Here is a pic.

Beautiful speaker Kevin, what type is it?
-
Thanks. They are Linkwitz Orions. I bought a flatpack from Wood Artistry then did the assembly and finish. Decided to pop for something special cabinet wise. These are my 'last speakers', well until the next 'last speaker' shows up ;D

Love the photo over the tape deck. Is that The Hook's hand?

Doc,
I thought someone would comment and you were at the top of that list.
It is David 'Honeyboy' Edwards on his 94th birthday. I had some photos in a group show, saw this at the Opening Reception and had to have it. Of course I then bought some Honeyboy CD's.

Thanks so much for all the great ideas. Love the Mapleshade but not the price. I may go with the Flexy Rack or modify my existing Sanus stands. The shelves are removable and I could rig in some spacers to extend a couple of shelves to 12" height.

Check out Timber Nation
http://www.timbernation.com
They do custom sizing and finishes in different stain color, all in solid maple. I had them built my rack based on an all Bottlehead setup. I also designed and had them built (2) four footer record storage unit, it doubles as a window seat bench.

If you are having trouble sourcing the Acorn nuts for a Flexyrack, you can get them at McMaster.

I have their nuts and bolts to be superior to Home Depot and Lowes and their pricing is often lower. And they offer much more choice of materials.
