So thrilled am I with the Eros that I can't wait as long as I thought I would before starting the next kit. Looking at the BeePre, of course, and am assuming that it makes the most sense to go ahead and build in the BeeQuiet during the initial build?
Considering that I'm certain to go with the Paramounts at some point, I'm thinking of maybe taking the plunge and ordering the package deal, although I doubt the Paramounts are a great match for my current low-efficiency Magneplanars. Will likely be looking at horns at some point, but in the meantime may experiment with the Paramounts in the system or continue to use my SS power amp. Has anyone tried matching the Paramounts with Maggies or is that just futile?

Paramounts with Maggies will really depend on your room size and listening levels. For what it's worth, while the Maggies are not super efficient, they do present a resistive load that is friendly for tube amps.
I would recommend building the BeePre first, then installing the BeeQuiet. It's lovely to know that your preamp is 100% operational before moving along to the attenuator.

My vote would be the Beepre, pair that up with your SS amp and go from there. I also have Maggie's. IMO, I would not waist your time or money on low power tube amps with them. They tend to need tons of damping to get decent bass

Now you got me thinking! The Maggie's are so easy to biwire I would be tempted to try tubes for the ribbon and SS for the planar

Unfortunately I have the 2.7's, which I seem to recall reading are a lot harder to biwire...After I finish the BeePre I'll have to start considering what direction to look next.

Hey Dave - I would think that any of the Maggie's would not be hard to bi or tri wire the newer panels, especially the higher end models with the crossover mounted on the back of the panel. You just have to get the schematic and figure out how they have it wired. Maggie tends to use simple crossover networks as well. Going to a biamping would also allow active crossover possibilities! Ooo la la!

Since you are asking for advice I'll give you a different path to go down. This idea will save you a little $$ too. Buy the Paramounts now. Doc is offering a free Submissive for a limited time. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the Submissive has the same parts as the Bee Quiet. That way you can use the passive with the power amps now AND have a free Bee Quiet when you get the BeePre. Just take the attenuators out of the submissive and install into the BeePre. Make sense?

The BeePre requires a different impedance than a passive volume control, so all of the resistors used are different. They do use the same switches and mounting methodology, but it would be far easier to install a BeeQuiet into a BeePre than to try to retrofit a Submissive into a BeePre.

Just got to hear the beequiet/beepree/paramount combo for the first time with our speakers this weekend. We swapped the BeeQuiet into the BeePree about mid way through the party (thanks Paul!) and suffice it to say that it was a real game changer for us. This was the one tweak I've done this past year that Molly especially REALLY noticed. We've got to listen to all our records over again! (and now it is warranted to do some significant upgrades to the TT as well).

I'll have to look in to that - I like the idea...A lot!
I did order the BeePre/BeeQuiet, and that'll keep me occupied for a few weeks at least. But I think I'll do some more reading on biamping. Very intriguing!

I'm getting kind of worked up about the idea myself! I'm going to ask the nice folks at manepan what the pseudo ribbon efficiency is, on its own. I think yours has a true ribbon if I'm not mistaken? Whatever it is, I would think 10-20 watts would be more than enough

I would imagine that Doc B. would've done the Paramount/BeeQuiet combo if requested.
