Makes the Quickie look like an even better deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-Tube-Only-Headphones-Amplifier-For-Sennheiser-HD-580-600-650-Beyer-DT880-/330945466701?pt=US_Pro_Audio_Amplifiers&hash=item4d0de3114d

Looks to me like the price is high in order to recover the cost of the elegant cabinet.

Oooo, Dan you need that tongue-in-cheek smiley face.

I fear it might look obscene.

Any ideas on how/if this thing might work?

Looks two tubes, jacks and a battery. With no DC blocking cap I can't imagine running 12 volts into the voice coil of one's HD 600/650 is going to do them any good.

My guess is this is a gag of some sort. ...that said - If I thought I could make these up and sell just two of them a year at the "Buy It Now" price I would happliy retire from my "day job".

I'll go with gag.  Maybe a shill for the site he mentions?

I sure hope so, given the lack of output coupling! Moreover, I wasn't aware that these "space charge" tubes had a particularly low plate impedance, given that they run at such a low voltage and puny currents. So, I am at a loss as to how a 150 ohm to 600 ohm device could just be "connected" without having a huge impedance mismatch - unless the output is being taken off the cathode. Even then, a cathode follower's output impedance is the inverse of its transconductance - which these little tubes cant have much of!

This thing has been listed for months, by the way - I just ran across it again recently and thought I'd share a laugh. So, there's a listing fee being paid over and over again for some reason or other....

I am 99.9% sure it's intended to be humorous (it made me laugh, especially when reading the description).

Too funny!  It would actually be pretty cool to have as an art piece, provided there was a $69.9k price reduction.

As Maxwell Smart used to say,"I missed it by THAT much." "Ninety nine, let's discuss this in the 'dome of silence' if you get my drift." Actually, he never said that.
