Title: S.E.X start up popping sound
Post by: Rayvolution on March 08, 2014, 03:33:32 PM
I have a S.E.X kit with C4S that I built a few months ago and it was perfect! However in the last week for some strange reason the left channel pops and hisses for the first 30 seconds to a few minutes whenever I turn it on. It doesn't pop or hiss after a little warm up, but the period for which it pops and hisses varies every time. I've switched tubes, headphones, cables, and sources to no avail. Plz help

Have you checked all the solder joints again?

Yeah I did noticed the 10Kuf 10v capacitor somehow became disconnected on one side but I resoldered it and the noise is still there.

It only pops and sounds like a windstorm when I cold start the s.e.x if I turn it off after some use then turn it back on its fine.

Note: The fuzz/popping occurs even with the volume at 0

I had a problem like that once with my Paramounts when I changed the cathode resistors.  I plain old forgot to solder one of the wires crimped to a terminal.  I finally caught it after the third 'thorough check' of my solder joints.   ::)
