Title: Purple Quickie Lives, Breathes, Sings
Post by: WK3K on March 30, 2014, 03:05:26 PM
Happy news from Austin. My Quickie is up, running, and singing like a champ. Build was very enjoyable and went super smooth. All resistance and voltage checks were well within normal limits. There is an extremely perceivable difference in my system with the Quickie - I'm amazed at how much better everything sounds. It looks like it's gonna be a bottle of George T Stagg and some quality time with the vinyl collection tonight.

No doubt the PJCCS will be on order in no time. I still want to add a third input - I just got a little PCB DAC in the mail, so integrating that will be next weekend's project. Oh man, and I need to build a bunch more interconnects. Then there's the base to consider... I can see how this hobby can get addictive fast!

Thank you all for your guidance and helping me get my feet wet with this project. Here are some pictures for the board.

Warmly,

Witold

nice work!  I definitely recommend the pjccs, it takes the Quickie to a whole new level.  This hobby really is addictive, I built the Quickie a few months ago and added the pjccs (with no intention of changing the amp), but now i'm going to add some resistors at the output to cut the gain by 6db to prevent myself from buying another amp that matches the Quickie better  8)  I definitely recommend tinkering, small changes can make a big difference!  Enjoy!

What brand are those tubes?

They came stock with the kit and are marked CS4 - made in France. That's all I know.

Interesting, reason i ask is they look identical to the Philips tubes that were made in Holland, very nice tubes..

My mistake, they actually say 3S4 Made in France. I know that some of the Phillips tubes were made in France as well, but these lack any maker's mark. I bet Doc or one of the other boys at the mothership could let you know what they're sending out in the Quickie kits these days. It does sound great to my ears, but I don't really have anything to compare it to. Either way I'm damn happy.

Yeah, I just got a batch of the Frenchies in today, and the date codes and glass seams do look like they could be made in Holland.

We will do our best to include these in the kits for as long as possible, they are quite nice!
