Hi, jsut finished the Quickie and I need a litte advise. All voltages and resistances are to spec. But is it normal to have full voltage at 1-6-2-7- with rotary in off position?? When playing a cd and switched off the music stops( but voltage to those terminal remains 29v - 38v. I checked and double checked my work. Thanks.....tom

Here is a thread you should read all the way through:

Post only resistances and voltages that are out of spec by more than +/-15%. Post what you have and what it should be.

That is perfectly normal as the switch only turns the filament heaters on/off.

Thanks for the reply. I checked everything 3 times. Doesn`t that run down the batteries?
-
Apparently not as without the filament heaters no current flows through the tube, so its an open circuit in effect.

Thank you very much. It was driving me nuts! Tom

This one is not obvious, and not exactly intuitive. But it's an old trick used in battery radios since the early thirties, possibly earlier. You get to use a cheaper power switch, still important for a $99 preamp!
