Made a careless error in my speedball build and put in the 31.6 ohm resistors flipped. Is this ok or do I have to remove them somehow and place them in the correct direction?
If I need to remove them, how would I go about removing them?
-
Resistors are not 'directional' so it doesn't matter which way around you fit them. As long as they're in the right place, you're ok.
-
I went ahead and desoldered it and fixed the orientation anyway.
Another quick question: seems like I burned the top of a trace slightly while attempting to desolder. Are the traces just on the surface or in the middle of the board also? Is a surface burn on a line going to cause any issues?
-
The traces on our boards are only on the top or the bottom.
There was no reason to flip that resistor around, and in reworking the board, you're likely to lift/break traces.
This will become apparent when you do voltage testing, though it may end up not being an issue.
-
Yeah there is a burnt black residue over one of the lines/traces on the back of the board. It seems fairly surface though, do you think it'll be an issue?
-
Its possible it could just be solder flux. I noticed the Cardas solder especially goes dark black with heat. See does it clean off with a bit of alcohol.
-
That is a very good point. How it got "burned" in the first place is i left the extended pieces of the desoldering wick on the board and it left some black marks. I will post pictures when I get home.
Thank you for your help in easing my frantic mind. I hope that at least my annoying questions can be cataloged so that someone else that's panicking can be reassured lol.

I think resistance and voltage measurements will be a lot more useful than pictures in this case. If either are off you probably damaged the board.

IT LIVES!
Thanks for all your help!
