Title: speedball mistake
Post by: zlobby on October 11, 2014, 06:06:31 AM
I built my crack successfully and it was fine until i tried to install the speedball upgrade.  While installing the speedball upgrade I accidentally switched the 2N2222A transistors and the 2N2907.  The unit started, something smelled like smoke, I turned it off and it has been sitting in a closet for almost two years.  I finally have time to fix it.  What kind of damage do you think I caused?

I would suspect those transistors to be toast, and quite likely the other ones on the board too.

Option 1: Remove the speedball and return the Crack to standard config to get it up and running again.

Option 2: Buy a replacement set of transistors from Mouser and replace them all.  Note requires unsoldering the old transistors so a solder sucker and desoldering braid will be required.

Option 3: Buy another complete speedball kit.

A couple of people have been able to swap transistors and end up with a working Speedball.  It might be worth giving it a shot to see if they survived.
