Title: Mistake in manual - now problems
Post by: markwilliams on May 10, 2010, 05:39:42 AM
Hi Everyone,

I read on here yesterday about the mistake in the manual regarding hookup of the D cell leads, which power the filaments of the 3S4s.

As I understood it -- for each channel -- the red lead of the respective D cell should, (after passing through the switch) be attached to pins 1,7 (and not to pin 5 as the manual indicates).

And that would mean that the black D cell lead should be attached to pin 5 (and not to pins 1,7 as the manual indicates).

OK, so I changed the wiring.   I simply reversed the wires formerly on pin 5 and 1,7.

But, now I am experiencing very weird things with my Quickie.   The volume is either too loud, or sometimes not there at all.   The volume pot will not respond when this happens.

At other times, all seems OK.

I am thinking some wiring also needs to be re-done with regard to the caps and resistors -- which were previously connected to the BLACK leads and pin 5.

Can some one tell me what to do systematically / step by step?

Thanks

I believe it was previously stated to leave the wiring alone and just flip the batteries over.

I don't see that it would create a problem if you swapped the battery holder leads instead.  I know I would have to do that because I wouldn't want to have to put the batteries in backward.

Mark,

Are you sure that the holder leads are right now?

Change the wiring back to the way it was written and pictured in the manual, then flip the D cells around.

I think I may have fixed it.

Confusing though.

Don't know if it's just the brand of 'D' cell I use, but it has a recessed centre on the negative end and won't make a good contact if the cell is just flipped.  I'll get round to re-wiring eventually.
