Title: mundorf film caps in the Quickie
Post by: aragorn723 on November 13, 2014, 04:01:59 PM
Hi,

Does anyone have experience with trying the Mundorf film aluminum oil caps on the Quickie for coupling caps?  The price is pretty good, so I would like to get some impressions of people's experience with this cap compared to stock if possible.  Below is a link:

Thanks!

Not tried the EVO range but the regular white Mundorfs are alright.  I actually prefer the ClarirtyCap ESA or Solen Fastcap which are both in the same price range.

Having said that i've had had a pair of Russian K75's in mine for ages now which i prefer over all of the above.

Ditto.
Tried lot of other russian caps but k75 are just right (sometimes I dream of a 2.2uf F3 cap anyway...  ::) )

Do you use just a straight-up K75 with no bypass?

Yes,
maybe when I'll finish my OB I would need more air, so I bought a 0.22ft3 for bypass  ::)

I have them in my Quickie and I love them!

To me they made a noticeable difference and as you said they are not expensive at all!  For $13 I'd do it!

would you describe the k75 as detailed, airy, and delicate sounding?  Thanks,

Dave

IMHO they are a bit "coloured", but in a really subtle way. Midrange is where they excel, top and bottom aren't as deep and detailed as a good Teflon cap, but they are not attenuated at all.
Take a look at the 3 parts capacitor review on the site enjoy the music, you will find all the info you need!
Ciao!

Hi,

I just ordered a set of the K75's!  What is the best way to mount them in the Quickie?  They are 2 inches wide by 1 inch diameter.  I've seen a bunch of people attach them using zip ties, but what is the best thing to connect to?  The terminal strips?

I just finished building my Quickie 1.1.  I put in 2 Mundorf supreme silver/gold/oil 2.7uF caps.  they fit very well with not support.  I had 4 from trying to upgrade my Rogue Atlas Magnum amp, but the caps were too big (didn't consider caps sitting side-by-side).  Glad I could use them.

After a few hundred hours break in, I'll let you know how they sound  :o
