Title: Mount the FP2 Power Transformer UNDER the Top Plate. Hmmm?
Post by: Bill Epstein on March 20, 2015, 11:30:37 AM
I can't remember any discussions of this back in the day. I don't like the looks of a transformer without end bells, painted or not and there's a real, if minimal safety issue.

Anyone think hanging it Bat-like will increase the likelihood of HUM?

I think the issue was hum.  It is not a Bottlehead design so it isn't properly shielded for under the hood.

You sold me. The inputs and output are on the rear panel,  Hum was always an issue and trumps Ugly. It goes on top.

Pity; wait 'til you see how the wires come out sideways from the windings...yikes.

Some of the guys buy a metal cup from a home store, paint it and cover the transformer with it.

I always liked the expanded-metal pencil cups - lots of ventilation, good visual coverage.
