Title: 5 & 6 Lug terminal Strips
Post by: kekoukela on April 20, 2015, 12:59:47 PM
Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding the 5 & 6 Lug terminal strips. Am I correct in assuming that when you solder a wire into say 20L and a wire into 20U, it's basically connected together anyways? So IF I were to solder everything into 20U instead of differentiating the two levels, everything would work properly? Is there a big reason to do U/L besides convenience?

Mechanical mounting (which component goes closest to the chassis) influences the recommendation. But most often we do it when there are too many wires to fit in just one hole.

Makes no difference electrically, but be careful of this when you are going through the assembly steps, particularly if you see a note to attach a wire but not to solder it. That means something else will be attached to the same place before soldering. If you attach the wires to different places you could possibly miss a soldering instruction. Not a big deal as long as you carefully inspect every terminal to be sure that all the wires are secure and properly soldered before you move on to the tests.

Awesome. Thanks! :D

I noticed that Terminal 3, 8, 11, 16, 17, and 22 are connected to the chassis, like whatever wire that goes into those will be connected to the chassis as well. Is it required to keep that pathway ?

Yes, that is something you really don't want to change.

We may also dictate U/L mounting points to allow for future upgrades more easily.  YMMV on how difficult those upgrades become if changes are made.

I see. Seeing as how I'm not as versed in this as you all are, I think I'll keep it stock for that. Thanks everyone for the replies!!! This has got to be one of the best forums out there :D
