Title: Extended FP3 Adapter for 9 pin to Octal
Post by: Nutube on June 10, 2010, 05:54:49 AM
Folks
I am making an adapter to plug into existing 9 pin...... both boards and tube don't light up. Regulator is fine. I have transposed and connected 8 pins Dont laugh --I left it out . Tested just to see if things light up. Reinstalling the 12au7 all went well...
where do I connect the 9 pin to on  6sn7 socket. Isn't the nine supplying the power ?
As usual I am exposing my fundamental logic impairment. Your advise is needed

Pins 4/5 and pin 9 on the 9 pin socket are the heater connections.  On the 6SN7, the heaters are pins 7 and 8.

Does the #9 pin of the 9 pin socket wire hook to the  octal 7 or 8 pin and then tie 8 & 7 togather?

Currently I have the 4 to 7; 5 to 8 and nothing on the #9 of 9 pin thinking the power is already distributed by the existing #9 on the 12au7 socket on the chassis

4 and 5 are tied together at the 9 pin socket, so going 4 to 7 and 5 to 8 puts 0v AC on the 6SN7 heaters.  The 6.3v appears between pins 4/5 (which are tied together) and pin 9, so go pin 4 to 7 and 9 to 8, or pin 5 to 7 and 9 to 8.

If you are making an adapter yourself the existing FP III pin 4 and 5 (first heater lead) are one and the same, voltage wise.  Either of them can go to the 6SN7 socket 7 OR 8.  The existing FP III pin 9 (other heater lead) goes to the other one of 7 OR 8.

For proximity and simplicity sake take the existing FP III pin 5 to the octal pin 7, take the existing FP III pin 9 to the octal pin 8.

I got it lighted! I need to improve the design...Its kinda pain to get to the wires for trouble shooting. Have a new design but thought I'd take a rest and move to another project while listening.
Off topic- I went to the gallery and could not find instruction on how to post pictures- Can you guys sic me on to it- Thanks

Don't feel rained on.  I had the same problem till I had posted several pictures.  When starting a topic there is an option at the lower left called "additional options."  There there is the "Attach" hot key that allows you to upload a picture.

If posting a reply you have to go to the "Preview" page first and then "additional options" hot key is there.
