The timing suits me this year so I should be able to attend on my way to Oz this year.
The first thing I ever built was a Son of Zen. I ordered the parts and managed to put them all together in a box from Ikea with heat sinks attached to the outside. Fortunately, Digikey put the parts in labelled bags so I could identify what a capacitor or a resistor looked like because I had no idea. When the time came to turn it on for the first time, I sent my young daughter and her friend outside to play and had my wife standing by holding the fire extinguisher. She did not know whether to laugh or cry.
It actually worked in both channels for about thirty seconds before the magic blue smoke appeared and I learned about heat. I rebuilt it with massive heat sinks and used it for quite some time but the heat output was truly impressive. It was a three box affair with the power supply, the load resistor tower and the actual circuit tower. As somebody put it, you could cook a chicken in the resistor tower.
I then built a Foreplay and that was a doddle by comparison and I had it up and working in less than a day.
I suspect a goodly percentage of the DIY audio crowd started off with a Nelson Pass or Bottlehead design. We owe them a lot.

Only four more weeks!!! Anybody planing to demonstrate their gear or attend? I will be there with my upgraded SEX 2.1, Quickie, Power Cord, Fostex bass reflex speakers. Come on by and say hi, I will be making a batch of my semi famous chocolate chip cookies. One more thing, you do not have to bring a complete system, the coordinator will mix and match whatever you bring with other peoples equipment, just let him know what you will be bringing. This is a really fun show.
Just spoke to Doc and The Queen yesterday, they can not make it, it's their twenty fifth anniversary.

It was a very interesting fest with quite a few tube amps on display. I've posted some photos at
http://bottlenecksaudio.blogspot.com/2015/10/burning-amp-2015.html (http://bottlenecksaudio.blogspot.com/2015/10/burning-amp-2015.html)
The lectures were particularly interesting and if you are in the Bay area when a future fest is being held, I would urge you to attend.

The show went very well, my SEX 2.1 was set up with with a pair of Mark Audio Pencil speakers. Everyone had very positive things to say about the combo, the SEX amp preformed flawlessly. I was very busy for the whole show, barely had time to eat lunch. My Quickie was loaned out to another system and as always received great reviews. I also demonstrated a fun system that consisted of a TDA7297 amplifier, Sony Playstation 1 and a pair of Braun Output C speakers, this system was also well received. Bottlehead was well represented there was a Foreplay, Smash and Eros. All the 10% off coupons were given out. My chocolate chip cookies were gone by the end of the day and were referred to as "Bottlehead Cookies". Fun time was had by all!
Only thing missing was fellow Bottlehead Kevin Olson who was on vacation.
Thank you Dan and Eileen for always supporting me for the shows!!!
