Title: Linda Ronstadt
Post by: aragorn723 on July 11, 2015, 02:43:47 AM
Hi,

Can anyone recommend some good Linda Ronstadt albums?  I have few:

Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind
Winter Light

Maybe someone can recommend some similar artists too?  Thanks!

Heart Like A Wheel, which is an album we have put out on tape. Round Midnight is also a nice, and different kind of album for her.

I asked the exact same question on AudioKarma.  I got answers that covered all her albums.  So two years ago I was working and bought all of them.

Her earlier works are my favorites.

I have several ol her albums.
I'll second Doc B. for Heart Like a Wheel and add a couple of my favorites:  Hasten Down the Wind and Cry Now.

Whichever one has Blue Bayou on it is great.

My faves are "What's New" with Nelson Riddle, and her Mexican album "Canciones De Me Padre".

What's new is the first record of hers I ever got..  That one had a warp in it, and definitely needs replacing  8)  Is the Mexican one all in Spanish?

In the same period and category, Lush Life is fabulous. I prefer it to What's New.

There are three, all with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra.  The collection of all three that I have is called Round Midnight.

Specifically, Silk Purse, Heart Like A Wheel and Prisoner In Disguise.  You already have Hasten Down The Wind (I went with the MOFI of this one).

Here is the WIKI Discography:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Ronstadt_discography

I see one I want, Dedicated To The One I Love.

Notice that he can't come up with the name.  Hmmm, I wonder why?

I think he means Hasten Down The Wind.  There are a few of her albums with her wearing flimsy tops.

I find it odd that the usual retailers, Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disk & Music Direct, don't have a pre-order of Just One Look.

I have, I think, all of her albums up through the early Eighties. One of the great voices of any age, any genre. Canciones de Mis Padres is especially good and led me to find her work in Mexican TV specials available on You Tube. https://youtu.be/Jc4LBeANZ8Y (https://youtu.be/Jc4LBeANZ8Y) The sound is poor on this one, some are better but the joy of making music really comes through.

I don't think I appreciated her looks enough as a young woman.  She was just a natural beauty.  And a great voice.

The last time I had a temp job I bought every album she has made.

Yes, I agree, her album covers do a great job in highlighting her natural beauty. Have to think it helped her sales.. I am not sure why, dont hate anything else about mexico proper, but I just seem to have absolutely no time for their traditional music.. haha  Amazing how certain sound styles just dont resonate within one's soul, yet can for many others.. Love it that way....

I have most of Linda Ronstadt's album with the exception of Heart Like a Wheel.  So, I went on Ebay just to look and found someone selling this album for $0.99.  The seller listed it as NM and it was an original from 1972 approximately.  So I said what the heck and put in a max bid of $5.00.  I won the bid and with shipping got the album for 5.39.

I received it a couple of days ago.  I is in fact NM condition both LP and Cover.  The music and recording quality was really good.  I will put it up there with one of my favorite Linda Ronstadt albums.  Thanks for the recommendation on this album.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

If you don't have it yet, I would recommend her Christmas album too.  Its hauntingly beautiful at times.  Enjoy!
