Title: Just Curious
Post by: Chris on August 12, 2015, 11:12:32 AM
Is something like this...."Tripp Lite DC Power Supply Low Profile 7A 120V AC Input to 13.8 DC Output"   for 56 bucks viable for audio gear that can run on a dc battery supply??  Too high a voltage? Too Noisy??  It sounds like quite a complete package on the website....  Thank you.....

What do you want to run with it?

You might be able to run a small car power amp on this, but the intent of the product is to be a better supply of DC voltage than the cigarette lighter outlet in your car, which isn't a particularly difficult task.

A car battery is normally under charge when the car is running, so the voltage is normally higher that 12 v. 13.8 seems appropriate.

Ok, thank you very much guys... My technics TT can run on ac or 12 volt dc. I have been tinkering with the idea of seeing if a dc power supply may do good things to the sound. I have always just used the ac wall outlet to run it... I can have a guy make a special dc power supply for it for close to 500 smackers so I was wondering if this 56 dollar unit was essentially similar...

Try wellbournelabs. I have two of their power supply units  they can assemble it or you can

What's the exact table in question?

If both AC and DC are acceptable forms of incoming voltage, there is an implication here that there is an internal power supply that will make DC either way.

Yes, I believe you are right... It has a proprietary AC power jack (grounded) and a typical DC plug in jack.. You can even run it off your car cigarette receptacle.. So it accepts bog standard 12v DC supplies..  It is a Technics SL-10....  I could use a DC wallwart but, I was thinking of a more "audiophile" (cleaner) type power supply.. I just ran across the Tripp lite product talking about "clean, pure DC) and I thought that may be a cheap solution just to try. I would think it has to be better than running AC directly from the wall like I always have.... I was wondering if the 13.8 V rating that the tripp lite product said may be too much or NOT matter...

I am starting to feel a little dumb now...  (not the first time,  NOR the last mind you)  .. I should just find a wall wart adapter laying around and try it first and see what it sounds like....If it is a noticable improvement, then look into a more sophisticated version where if it is a few hundred bucks, I can make a more informed decision... Thank you guys very much...

Look for an appropriate 12V adapter that says "Class 2 Transformer" on the case. (Or try the Tripp-lite)
