OK, I am a sucker for anything that may possibly make my bottlehead products better. One night while drunk Ebay shopping I purchased these tubes. Now that I am sober and I received them in the mail, I can't help but wonder if they are real. I can say I paid enough that they should be real. Anyone know one way or another. I have tried to look online but can't figure it out. A lot of differing info.

Boxes look legit. Is there a diamond pressed into the bottom of the glass?
-
How do these relate to the BeePre?
-
THIS SHOULD BE IN THE EROS SECTION. TUBE IS FOR EROS So I would hate for others to fall for the same scam.
Doc, That is the most fascinating part. They do have a diamond on the bottom and I have tried to take the best picture I can. It almost looks like someone took a small square and glued it on. Very hard to tell if it is molded in to the tube or if it is glued on. These tubes where about $400 for the set. (Yes I am crazy). So if they are fakes I would like to help others. Especially since the same guy has more for sale on Ebay.
If you can see it, there is also a small in between the gap in the pins.and what looks like a 7 or a j in the middle of the diamond on the bottom.
If these are real, they are in excellent shape.
I do have a tube test, don't know if there is a way to test them on that to get an idea if real or fake.
Thanks for the help.

If you look at this picture, which I am assuming is 100% real. It looks as the diamond is pressed in the the glass with the sides pushed up. I mine examples it looks like a flat piece of some glass or something glued possible glued to the bottom.
This would be a very nice job if these are fake

Yes, it should be an impression in the existing glass. I can't concur from the images, the two dimensional image makes it hard to see in enough detail whether the diamond is a separate piece of glass. Interesting idea that someone would fake the diamond. If they are legit they should sound marvelous. I use them in my own gear.

So Chris, these relate to the BeePree because there are one of the more expensive tubes you can buy for the BeePree in the EF 86.
EL84 ≠EF86

True dat, these would be for an Eros, a Tube Repro or a single one in a Tode.

The lettering sure does look pristine.. All my Teles say west germany on them.. Great post and thank you for posting it.. We all need to be careful... And hahaha yes, I have a few DVD movies that I thought I just NEEDED to have when online shopping while imbibing.. NOT the best combination haha...

Phew...he has an Eros preamp :)
Those are piccies from my beloved Telefunken ecc82, the diamond seems like yours, so I think your tubes are ok (mine are 100% original).
Ciao!

Crap, you guys are right. For the EROS.
-
Bonzo, yours and mine do look very much alike. Maybe I just go a really pristine pair. That is what it said I was buying. I guess I will need to listen and if they sound good to me then they ARE real. Perception is reality anyway right??
Thanks everyone.

Take care of the printing...white rubber Tele's printing is a PITA because is so easily remowable...
Happy listening!
PS: I have some Tele's ef86 too, maybe I need an Eros phono myself!

hi thdewitt,
how do the tubes sound?
-
Those look like my EF 806S - and they're the best sounding tubes I've used in my Eros! I've tried quite a few "premium" NOS examples, including Mullard, Philips, Siemens, Tesla, GEC, and Valvo e80F. The telefunken is a clear winner in my book. Congrats! Now get yourself a early "gray shield" Siemens CCa for the 6922 position and you will be set :-)

The diamond on the glass should absolutely have raised sides. It may be hard to tell just by observation -- take an exacto knife or something like that to test it; it'll be obvious. If the sides are IN the glass -- carved into it, if you will, etched or laser cut -- it is a fake.

Congrats! I have a pair in my Eros tape as well. Of note, I have a few grey plate tele EF86's that are identical in structure to the 806S and sound just as good. From what I've read, they were the rejects off of the 806S line and labeled as standard EF86's at a fraction of the price.
