I'm building a set of BR-1 speakers from a kit from Parts Express. Which Bottlehead amp (seductor, stereomour2, kaiju) would work best? I'm basically a noob but I'm willing to learn.
The stats on the BR-1's:
2-way bookshelf speakers
8 Ohm
100 watt power handling
83 dB sensitivity
Thanks in advance,
Fred

My two cents, these speakers are not efficient enough for the low power SET tube amps. I run my Stereomour with 92 db speakers in a medium sized room and it is loud enough with a bit of headroom. If you want to run tubes, look into a speaker kit that is a bit more efficient.

Yeah, you would probably need something around 100W to get everything you might want out of an 85dB speaker in an average size room. The only amp of ours that would get satisfying dynamic levels from that speaker would be a pair of Kaijus strapped to mono for 16W. You could see 94dB peaks from that. It could work pretty well in a near field configuration.

OK- After I finish these BR-1's I'll look at the kits at Madisound. Any suggestions on those? I prefer the DIY stuff.

For DIY speaker projects, especially single-driver designs that pair well with BH amps, the guys who run diyaudio have lots of plans, etc.
