I have a Crack with upgraded caps (Mundorf), choke, upgraded pot and some Nos Tubes. Headphones are Beyer T1's. I have enjoyed the sound but have been bothered by a few things. There was a bit of "grunge" and the soundstage was not as clear as with my speakers. I have tried various interconnects without hearing much change or improvement.
I am planning a Kaiju build and my speaker builder encouraged me to try some "special" wire and solder from a vendor he uses when I build it. Being the constant skeptic, I thought, "wire is wire". I have made interconnects from cotton insulated wire with some positive results so I thought I would rewire my Crack just to see if it had any impact. The wire is 20 gauge single strand copper, cry'od and all that fancy audiphile stuff. It comes with separate cotton insulation. It is actually quite affordable and easier to use in some ways since you don't have to strip anything, just cut the wire to length, cut the insulation a bit shorter and install.
I rewired the input and output wires and fired it up. Prior to rewiring I listened to a bunch of tracks and rated the qualities. So I fired it up and listened to the tracks again. I have to say, I was blown away with the changes. Without going into all the audiophile jargon, I can say that everything was clearer, more well defined, natural sounding. Any "grunge" was gone, instrument separation and placement was superb and voices just stand out with amazing detail. this is the best upgrade I have made and made far more difference for the money than changing tubes.
pretty happy with the results, think I will do my Stereomour next.

Got a link to the wire?

Contact Ron at Marigo Labs. Ask for his Fusion V2 solder and 20 gauge OFHC wire. The wire comes with black or white sleeves. If I need red, I just mark it with a red marker.
I don't think the wire is on his website. it was about $2.49 a foot.
