Title: Teflon Insulated Hookup Wire
Post by: AudioDave on January 24, 2016, 10:23:15 AM
Where is the best place to purchase 22 or 20 gauge solid core hook up wire like that used in the Bottlehead kits?  I am having trouble finding it.
Thanks!
Dave

Mouser sells 100 foot spools of this wire.  20 AWG is about $140 per spool, 20 AWG is roughly $100 per spool.  We do provide more wire with the kits than you will need.

Any chance Bottlehead would sell a small amount of their hookup wire? I'm doing some modifications to my Stereomour and I need the black and red heater wire and some of the signal wire, but not more than a say a foot of each, if that.

For stranded teflon coated wire, I've always gone to Apex Jr:  http://www.apexjr.com/wire.html

20AWG looks to be about $22/100 ft

No affil & have had great interactions...

I'd send an email to their replacement parts email address.

Or then again, maybe not.  See below.  :-[

[email protected] is really just for when you break a part during assembly. We have a small enough staff that staying focused on our kits is the best way to maintain the flow of product. Places like Parts Connexion, Handmade Audio, Apex. Jr., Parts Express, etc. are focused specifically on supplying small quantities of various parts and they are usually very good about selection and delivery. We use them for our small projects too.

Farnell/Element14 sell 100ft rolls of that wire for around €50, way cheaper than the €140 from Mouser.  Shame you cant buy it per foot though.

I have bought teflon insulated wire in small batches (~10 ft) from eBay seller 'navships' on multiple occasions. He is very reasonable and reliable. I can definitely recommend him.

What gauges are used in the kits? I'm guessing 18-20 for the power stuff and 22-24 for signal?

I have had good luck on eBay for 20-22ga stranded and solid, silver plated, PTFE coated.  Several vendors.  This is but one example -

So I ordered wire from Homegrown Audio a week and a half ago, and no response, no order update, no nothing. Weird. I guess I'll try to get my money back and go somewhere else!

Did you try phoning them or e-mailing them?

6 weeks doesn't seem too unreasonable. Not responding to phone calls or e-mail is troubling.

I have gotten nice solid core teflon wire on ebay. Reasonably priced also.
