Title: Changing SEX from 8 ohm to 4 ohm
Post by: DanP on February 25, 2016, 06:15:32 AM
I thought I would find an answer to this question, but couldn't-maybe I didn't search on the right terms.  I recently built a pair of distributed mode loudspeakers with 4 ohm transducers-talk about unboxing your sound!  I would like to hook them up to my older SEX amp (which I did not build) and would like to know how to switch the output impedance from 8 ohms to 4 ohms. BTW, except for simple soldering, I've never built any electronics.
Thanks.

What version of the SEX? Post pictures if you don't know and we will identify.

Yup, Josh found the link that will work for that version. If you look at the yellow wrap on the coil you should see one side labeled C/Black, 4 ohms/gray, 8 ohms/white. Trace the white 8 ohm wire coming from each transformer coil to where it is connected in the circuit (T5U on one channel and and T25U on the other) and disconnect it from that point and insulate the bare end of the white wire. Connect the gray wire in its place.
