Title: Triad c7x choke problem [resolved]
Post by: alepoli on April 30, 2016, 06:43:29 AM
Hi all,

I installed Mundorf evo aluminum caps and everything sounded great. Then the next weekend I installed a Triad C7x choke. Here are the voltage readings:
1   85
2   180
3   0
4   180
5   85
6   -.01 (supposed to be 0)
7   113
8   0
9   111
10   -.01
11   0
12   0
13   180
14   0
15   200
20   0
21   220

(Sorry I did not measure the tube voltages, the speedball boards are in the way and I did not want to short anything.)

Everything seemed to check out however when I plugged in my headphones and let the music flow I noticed the amp was quieter than before, to reach the same volume I had to turn it up by an additional number or so (referring to the clock analogy) in order to get the same volume. Is this normal? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Your voltages don't indicate any problems, and the choke did not cause this problem.

It's likely that you have a flaky solder joint that you have disturbed by installing the choke, and now you are more able to hear it.
