Potentially great news for the company, and for the hobby. The emphasis on sorting out reliability means it may get onto my radar again and influence future amp choices.

I am one of the lucky ones it seems and have a pair of Elrog 300B's without problem. They are a great tube.

Well one of my Elrog's shit the bed today. I got lucky for two years which is more than many got out of their pairs. I'm not sure if I'll buy another pair until the quality control goes up. They sound really good in my system.....

Sorry to here that Aaron, I went through two pair of the 2nd batch. Now that Thomas has taken over and the improvements in the production line, I am seriously thinking of another pair. I have never heard an original WE but the Elrog is by far the best tube I have had in my system.

Hopefully they make a 2.5v filament version (or a 2A3) one day.

I don't think that's feasible with a 2.5V filament because of the operating temp necessary for thoriated filaments. Of course changing operating points, filament voltages and currents, plate dissipation, impedance, mu, transconductance, cathode materials, plate structure, shape, size or pretty much anything else is allowed these days and you can still call it a 300B or 2A3 as long as it has a UX4 base.

I'm curious about your impressions of the Elrogs compared to the Takatsuki? I've considered buying a pair but if they are not on par with the Elrogs which are the best sounding tube I've used in my amps then I'll hold off until there quality control goes up.

The Takatsuki's are close, they just don't have that attack that the Elrogs do. (One of my Takatsuki's failed after a hundred hours, so back to my trusty EMS mesh (which I find sound better in the Kajiu than in the Parimounts).

I'm running EML mesh at the moment too. They are work horses but they just don't have the sound that the Elrogs had. So much so I pulled the amps out of the system and am using my 71A amp. My current plan is to update the 300B amps and put them back in their crate until Elrog puts out a stable product. I may even sell the amps. It's frustrating that the only sound I really enjoy out of them costs $1200 every couple of years. That's too much for my wallet..
