After a visit to spiritland i have become very interested in tube amplifiers, it was an extremely impressive sound! after a bit of reasearch ive ended up here.

Having grown up around Linn and Naim systems id only heard fairly dismissive opinions about tube systems.

Im thinking very hard about selling an old naim headline amp and power supply to help fund a bottlehead amp for my LCD2 headphones, all the soldering seems pretty daunting though

Hi Andrew and welcome there are a few of us Bottlehead builders here from the UK its is a bit daunting if you have never done anything like this before but many of us have been in the same boat as you.  Check out the innerfidelity build video of a  Bottlehead Crack essentially the process is the same for the other amps.  I suspect the Sex or Mainline would be a great choice for your LCD2 perhaps some LCD2 users might comment.

Hi Andrew, I'm another brit. I started with the Crack and Speedball 2-3 years ago. I'm sitting right now listening to the remastered Jethro Tull 'Stand Up' through my Kaiju amp. Do it, I promise you won't regret it. Music has never sounded so wonderful. Shame about the exchange rate!  :)

I was playing Tull's Aqualung LP earlier today as well via the Eros and Sex ;D

all the soldering seems pretty daunting though

I'd recommend getting a Quickie (and/or a Quicksand).  They are inexpensive and run on batteries, thereby giving you some soldering practice without having to do high voltage checks right out of the gate.  Plus they sound amazing.  I started way back when on the original $99 Foreplay and was blown away what it did to my relatively expensive audiofool system.

Just be careful - building your own equipment gets addicting rather fast - as I've now built a Foreplay, Paraglows, Foreplay II, Quickie, Quicksand, Stereomour II, Seduction, Eros, many hot-rodded.  When's Doc B. going to release that new speaker project?  :o
