Title: Paramour II 2A3 Tube Question
Post by: Mike F1 on November 03, 2016, 03:42:55 PM
I've have my original 2A3 still going in my Paramour.
I figure I must have +2000hrs on them.... they still sound okay but wonder what's a nominal life span on 2A3's?

also, the JJ 2A3-40 look appealing to me. I've heard good (and some bad things) about them.
Bad being they tend to be faulty under certain amp designs/conditions.
Before I drop the money, will these tubes work ok in the Paramours?

Thank you

Mike

I don't know what the life span of a 2A3 happens to be. But 2000 hours doesn't seem like much. My guess is that's about 25 percent of life, if that.

A bunch of guys here run the JJ 2A3-40 in the Stereomour which is a similar circuit.

Mike,

I just ordered the JJ 2a3-40's for my Stereomour II (and the JJ ECC81 goldpins for the driver tubes) based on the reviews on this site.  Had zero problems with the original Sovteks, just looking to get to the next level.  The problems you heard about have been resolved and Eurotubes again has a 6-month warranty.  You can allay your concerns by calling Eurotubes - they are very familiar with the Bottlehead products.  I'll report back when I receive them with my listening impressions.  Someone also posted a picture of the JJ's next to the Sovteks, and the JJ's are huge.  We'll soon see whether size matters.

I like the sound of RCA 2a3's more that the JJ's but I also like a Passive pre amp also.
