I cheated and bought the already assembled reduction prototype unit from Bottlehead. I have built a stereomor and a Crack headphone amp. All three sound great.
I started losing a channel on the reduction about a month ago and ordered new tubes. The problem cleared up but now I am getting occasional loud distortion out of the left channel. It comes and goes and can be eliminated temporarily by turning the unit on and off again (totally annoying - loud pop and then the distortion goes away).
I switched the tubes to see if they were the problem and the distortion still only came out of the left channel. I am assuming a bad cap, but I am not an expert and not sure where to start.
Any advice on troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

If you bought the prototype from us, I would recommend returning it for repairs. Otherwise a voltage check is the place to start, but often times the prototypes will vary just enough that the manual for the production kit isn't quite accurate.

Will do.
Thanks!
