Title: Subwoofer Connection
Post by: amritdesai on August 15, 2017, 10:48:03 AM
I'm reaching out because I'm not entirely sure if it's possible to hook my subwoofer up to the Stereomour II. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I can accomplish this? I purchased on a whim, a Zu Audio Undertone subwoofer maybe making a few incorrect assumptions about integrating it into my system. So far, I've managed to come up with a few options.

1. Utilizing speaker outputs for subwoofer
2. Second preamp output - is this possible?
3. Wiring signal from switch to 3rd (unused) RCA - not sure how to control volume

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Choice #1 will work; the risk is that the residual hum from the 2A3 AC filament power may be more audible. The DC filament supply kit will reduce that hum quite a bit - I don't remember the actual amount, but we did measure it.  :^)

Taking the output from between the driver and power sections is possible in theory, but it's a bit complicated and I am not aware of anyone having tried it.

Paul,

I just talked to the Zu guys and a speaker level connection is actually preferred. I have the DC filament upgrade already installed so hopefully there will be no audible hum.

Thank you for your response!

Hi, I have the original Stereomour. I ordered rca splitters from Blue Jeans Cable and split the preamp signal before the Stereomour. I run 4 12" servo subs and 2 servo amps and it is very quiet. However, I resigned to adjusting 3 volumes then since I don't have a nice preamp, like say a smash or beepree.

I run the speaker outs from my Stereomour II to a HP XO. I tap off the input side of the XO to a pair of powered subs. Works well, I only have to adjust sub level occasionally due to source material.

Thanks guys. I'm having a lot of success with the speaker level connection - the timing seems spot on. I'm blown away the difference the Undertone sub makes - I just can't believe how much music I've been missing!

Hi -- forgive my ignorance, but what is a speaker level connection? How do you have your subwoofer connected to the stereomour II? Thanks!

Binding posts or spring clips that accept speaker wire.

Thanks for the reply! Are the pics in this article accurate for connecting a subwoofer to the stereomour II?
