Title: Rewire Rega RB 250 tonearm
Post by: vpeele on June 30, 2020, 07:58:09 AM
Hello All,
I have a Rega RB 250 tonearm. I'm thinking of rewiring the arm with (KAB super flex 34Ga 40 strand pure copper Litz wire) and upgrading the RCA plugs and using silver plated ofc cables.
Is there a step by step guide for this upgrade anywhere? I'm a bit nervous as I don't want to destroy my arm. Will this improve the sound of the Rega arm?? I have BottleHead 300b mono blocks, BeePre 300b preamp, an old BottleHead phono pre.
Thanks for all your help.

Thanks,
van

I have done this a few times, it's not all that fun, but I would suggest just buying a rewire kit.  If your RB-250 doesn't have problems currently with the wire that's in it, I wouldn't recommend doing a rewire.  Eventually, however, I believe that they all chafe through the wires and need this work done.

Thanks Mr. Paul,
I will listen to the voice of reason. I won't do the tonearm rewire.
I think I'll replace the Walmart extension cord I've been using for the past five years with 14 awg OFHC copper speaker wire instead.
Thanks,
van

No affiliation, but if you don't want to rewire a Rega tonearm yourself and you are in the US check out this website. http://www.britaudio.com/tonearm-rewire-service.html (http://www.britaudio.com/tonearm-rewire-service.html).
He has been in business many years.

That's a very, very fair price for doing that job.  If I had a local customer bring me an RB250/300 to rewire, I will just send them there!

Hi Paul,
Thank you Ken for the Britaudio advice. I will send the tonearm to them.
OFC speaker wire is arriving tomorrow. Hope I can hear a difference.
Paul thanks for all your help,
