Title: Soldering
Post by: Knightstick on June 11, 2021, 02:31:44 PM
Hi everyone! I'm brand new to all this and have my kits enclosure, and hardware assembled. I am having a really hard time with soldering though. Can anyone suggest a practice kit or something of the like? Kind of embarrassing since everyone else seems to pick it up quick. I just want to insure solid connections as that is very important from what I read.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Can you send a link to the solder and iron you're using?  If there's not enough heat available, you'll struggle like crazy.

I'm not sure of the link but I'm using the Hakko 888D I believe. I do have MS  and my hands can be slightly shaky. It usually subsides after repetition, with similar detail orientated things.

I have an 888D as well.  It's so incredibly easy on that iron to think you're turning the iron up, but in actuality you're adjusting the calibration and making the maximum possible temperature a lot lower.  When I first got the iron, I thought it was completely useless until I read the manual, reset the calibration, then properly adjusted the temperature.

Oh wow, I actually did that. I was perplexed when the temp didn't change. thanks so much. I will read the manual. One question. Is the Cardas Quad Eutectic Silver Solder Okay? My father recommended it for amps.

It should work just fine.
