Hi - Was tinkering around with my amp again and had a question re: the stepped attenuator upgrade. When I performed the upgrade, I didn't take note of whether or not there was a difference in total potential volume output. However, when I was looking at the design (and I'm a total novice, so this might be a dumb question) it looks to me that even with the course and fine controls wide open that there's about 34K of resistance. Not sure, but does this mean that the stepped attenuator design lowers the total available volume compared to the original controls?
Thanks!
Louis

The stock balance control and volume pot has some insertion loss to allow for the balance pot to work, and this is almost the same as the insertion loss of the attenuator upgrade.

Got it. I have alot to learn about resistors. Thanks!

Paul, so without the mourquiet upgrade, would I get a bit more gain if I removed/bypassed the balance pot?

IIRC around 3-4dB. You could also get a bit of extra gain by bypassing the cathode resistors on the driver stages.
