Title: Looking for More Baritone Sax
Post by: Clover on October 09, 2021, 07:50:42 AM
I have been digging some songs with a Baritone saxophone recently and am looking for more.  I don't really know much music that has one though.  Anybody have anything they would recommend that features a baritone sax? Thanks.

Title: You need Morphine

As in the band called Morphine. Unfortunately disbanded due to the death of frontman / bassis Mark Sandman, Morphine recorded a few albums with an unusual bass / baritone sax heavy sound.

Most of their tracks amply exhibit this formula, but a few stand out in my memory:

"Good" from the album of the same name

'Buena" from the album 'Cure for Pain'

"Honey White" from the album 'Yes'

Typically comprising a trio of bass, sax and drums, Morphine's unusual sound is typically dark, blues and jazz-influenced. The music is surprisingly full and engaging given this seemingly limited palette of instruments.

Careful, though - like their name implies, they can be habit-forming, if not addictive.
