Title: High B+ voltage
Post by: ADClosson on November 18, 2021, 07:55:46 AM
I'm reading 325.5 VDC at the Raw B+ voltage test on page 38. It does seem to generally stabilize at 325.5, but it was starting to creep up when I unplugged the unit.

I've attached pictures of my build thus far. I'm not an experienced solderer, so I recognize that some/many of my connections might be suspect. In particular, I'm wondering if the diode/22 ohm resistor package might be one culprit.

Forgive the presence of paint on the underside of the chassis—sloppy, I know. I don't believe it's an issue, however, as it doesn't appear to affect ground connections.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I would imagine your incoming AC line voltage is just slightly high.  Another possibility is that with no 6V6s in the tube sockets, I would expect that raw B+ to creep up a bit too.

Thanks, Paul. The 6V6s were in fact installed. Should I proceed with the build and see how things turn out?

Yes, I wouldn't be too worried about that.

Ok, will do, thanks. The wall voltage is reading 124.5. Perhaps that is contributing to the issue.

Yes, that will bump that voltage up a bit.
