The wife gave me permission to upgrade my turntable, and I've been thinking about the Technics SL1200. There's a special edition that just came out, any reason to pick this version over the regular SL1200?
Here's the special edition, looks like it is a pre-order though:

Can anyone share their experience with the SL1200 ? Will it blow away my U-Turn orbit?

I used a pair of 1200 Mk2's for about 10 years as a dj and they served me well, I still regret selling the pair and some other equipment many years ago. I should have kept one of them.
I'm sorry to report that I have no knowledge of the newer products. I think I might look for an older used model if the price is right.
YMMV.

I currently have 4 Technics models including custom variants of the old SL-1200 MK'2's as well as the modern SL-1210GR.
Other than the GR, all of my tables have been upgraded and modified. IMO, the upgraded tables sound as good as the $1700 GR. The GR however, is an awesome table that requires no upgrades. If dollars matter, I would personally pick up a "like new" used SL-1200 MK2 if possible (variant does not matter). Then use KABusa.com to upgrade key components. Would cost about $800 total or less and the table would be killer.
Technics also has an SL-100C model available on Amazon UK website that looks really great. No frills without the DJ look. From Amazon warehouse deals UK you can get a "very good" for $800 shipped, which is a great price for the new motor technology. If I didn't have so many tables, I'd love to buy one.

The mk2 looks pretty good, though I'm curious about the mk7 still. I might go see one and test it with some records.
