I'm looking at this amp, and wondering, with the attenuators, what would I gain by adding the Moreplay?

Not related to the Moreplay.
But I've found a significant gain in dynamics and presentation from my SII with a preamp in front.
-
I've heard exactly the same , with other amps. Curious to hear other peoples experiences.
-
Although it was with the previous generation of products - that's exactly what I found when I added a Smash preamp to a Stereomour.
-
so, assuming I build a Stereomour II and a Moreplay, why have two sets of volume/balance controls and two selectors in the lineup? Could the Moreplay have the stepped attenuators and selector pots, and eliminate them from the Stereomour II? I'm sure the combo as is sounds great, and is most likely my next project, but just wondering about the redundancy... Steve T

A stepped attenuator upgrade is planned for the Moreplay. For the Stereomour, the SR driver and DC filament supply would still be very worthwhile upgrades. You can just leave the volume control turned all the way up on the Stereomour to mate it to the Moreplay.
-
Thanks Paul! So, my thought is this- Moreplay with the stepped upgrade (later on) and Stereomour with just the resistor representing "turned all the way up" in the circuit rather than the whole stepped attenuator setups or volume pots and balance control.... I just like doing away with any redundancy when possible... Steve T

I also have the Moreplay mated with my Stereomour II and I like the combination

With the stepped attenuators, you do lose the balance control. So if you have both, you can retain the balance control on the Stereomour and implement the stepped attenuators on the Moreplay - or vice-versa.
-
Thanks again Paul! "For the Stereomour, the SR driver and DC filament supply would still be very worthwhile upgrades" - that's my plan, and then stepped on the Moreplay.....

Paul, how much sonic improvement is there with the DC supply on not super efficient speakers?

Paul, when do you expect to offer stepped attenuators on Moreplay? and, will it be similar to the upgrade on Stereomour; rough and fine knobs, no balance?

The Moreplay attenuator upgrade will shed the balance control. The DC filament upgrade for the Stereomour isn't super useful if you don't hear any hum from the stock amp through your speakers.

Any idea on when the Moreplay’s Sweetest Whispers attenuator upgrade will follow?
I’m also postponing my Moreplay purchase for this release. Is this upgrade planned for this year?
-
We have one project in front of it at the moment that's somewhat urgent.

Bumping an old thread because I'm interested in possibly doing this. What would be the disadvantages?
I get next to zero hum without the DC filament; should I be ok keeping it that way if I add the Moreplay? Will there still be a stepped attenuator upgrade for the Moreplay?
-
We will be releasing a stepped attenuator upgrade for the Moreplay that comes with some extra goodies, much like the first upgrade in the BeePre. Time to work on that has been in very, very short supply this year!
Other than having an extra chassis taking up space in the setup and a little extra power consumption, I don't see any issues with this plan.

Cool, thanks. I’d like to use the second output for my Crack. I imagine I’ll want to wire this different, since the gain will be too much for the headphone amp?
-
You could wire the output going to the Crack to the selector switch as a tape output, so the selector switch can be used to direct your sources to the Crack, but the Moreplay can be left turned off and not contribute more gain to an otherwise adequately sensitive HP amp.
-
Perfect. Thanks! This is what I’ll do. I’ve recently had the chance to listen at higher volumes, which I love, and I noticed that with some records I can easily turn the Stereomour all the way up and still want more. Adding the MorePlay would take care of that nicely. I imagine with it turned all the up I would leave the ohms wiring as I have it?
-
Yes, I wouldn't change the impedance configuration.
-
Quick follow-up, since I‘ve now ordered the Moreplay: should I do this wiring during assembly or wait till it‘s done? Should be pretty simple mod, right?
