Title: SOLDER JOINTS
Post by: Doc B. on August 02, 2013, 05:28:44 AM
Almost every day I am asked about how much improvement this capacitor or that switch will make. Regardless of the praises sung for some particular component - none of them sound as good as properly soldered connections!

DIY is about learning skills. One of the most important ones is proper soldering technique. Videos will show you how, but won't train your muscles or your brain. Practice solder joints until you can create a smooth, filleted joint that you have carefully inspected and found to completely encompass all the wires and the terminal or pad.

If you can build a piece of stock gear with structurally sound joints it will sound far better than a modified amp with a bunch of crappy solder joints, and it will provide trouble free service.
