Title: Completed Smash
Post by: mpeg2 on June 08, 2014, 06:03:18 AM
Finished up this morn - passed resistance & voltage checks with no problems.

Hooked it up (replacing a quickie) for a quick listen - very nice (will have to wait 'till later for lengthy try out).

Quick smartphone picture below - I built a base out of Bocote & turned some knobs from Walnut while waiting for the kit to arrive.

I like the additional glow from the voltage regulator tube...

I've now had a chance to listen for a little while - I really like it. Seems to be quite a step up from the Quickie - much more clarity in the sound and imaging. I now realize that I lost something when I put the quickie in the system - now back. I'm now experiencing the kind of sound that I had when I first connected up a Stereomour & BLH FR speakers. Of course, with the Stereomour, I really don't need a separate preamp - but will in the future when I get around to expanding things.

I'd certainly recommend the Smash preamp to anyone considering it.

The build was fairly easy and straightforward.

Chain: Yamaha CD player -> Smash -> Stereomour -> Madisound BK-16 speakers + Bucket subwoofer
