Title: Devore Fidelity & Paramount
Post by: jaragon on April 21, 2010, 03:09:35 PM
Hi everyone. Do any of you pair the Paramount with a Devore Fidelity Speaker. I own the Super 9s which are rated at 90.5db. A Shindo Montille - push-pull at 15 watts - drives them easily. I think the Paramount's 8/9 watts may be just straddling the line. I live in mid-size apartment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Admittedly the sensitivity of your speakers is under what Bottlehead recommends.  But... always the but, there are several things that factor into this.

How big is your room, how hard/soft is your room, how loud do you like to listen and what kinds of music do you listen to?

If you have a 20' ceiling in a 32'X18' room (obviously you don't), your room is overly damped, you like to listen to hard rock at concert volumes then you will be in trouble.  Considering that a 15WPC tubed PP amp now increases your chances.  Your other thread will help also.

I have had great results with 8watt SET and 90 or 91db speakers.  Enough power even for a good sized room.  The marantz HD770's I'm using now are 89db and they get much too loud with the paramounts.

I didn't mean to discourage him.  According to the numbers my room doesn't work but it does for me.  But the OP hasn't posted back.  He might not be watching any more.
