Title: Balance control
Post by: gh0st on September 02, 2014, 07:58:27 AM
My Smash must be coming up for shipping soon... starting to get excited  ;D

One thing I wondered was whether I could dispense with the balance pot - I can't think of any time in the past that I've wanted to control left/right balance, is there a use case for this that I'm not aware of?

Would it be as simple as just to leaving it out and wiring the signal from the source-selector directly into the volume pot? It's not a big deal, but if I won't use it then it's a set of contacts that I could do without...

You can leave it out, but keeping the wiring stock will allow for the forthcoming attenuator upgrade to install properly (it dispenses with the balance control).

Now I've got my kit and manual, can I just confirm that without the balance control I'd just wire the outputs from the input switch directly to the volume pot, dispensing with the 33K Raux resistors?

Yes, that is correct.

Mmmm? Is the upgrade a dual mono setup?

The upgrade is a stepped attenuator, much like the Bee Quiet, which is a coarse/fine attenuator.
