Title: Battery alternatives for the Quicksand
Post by: colinegreen on February 19, 2015, 10:34:53 AM
Hello -

I am building a small battery powered system for camping trips and other off the grid listening, and your amp looks perfect. I am building some small BLH full range speakers, and will feed the amp with an iPhone or some other portable source, possibly through a small DAC.

I was thinking a small automotive or motorcycle battery would be easier than the bank of C cells - any comment? Would a 24V battery be better? AGM? SLA?

Any insights? I am a total amateur with very little experience with electronics.

The Quicksand will start to play music with around 6V, but at reduced power. Try it on your 12V system to see if that's enough first. If you go to 24V, all the 16V caps in the amp should be replaced with higher voltage parts.
