Title: Voltage numbers, Stereomour II
Post by: romarin on April 21, 2016, 04:43:16 AM
I suspect this is a dopey question at best, but I don't understand how the 160v winding on the power transformer in my Steromour II kit produced 388v of B+.  I'd be most grateful if someone could explain this magic to me. Apologies for my ignorance!   :o :-\

The circuit is called a "voltage doubler" - Google has lots of information on it. I like it because it makes more efficient use of the transformer winding. There are a few other minor advantages as well.

Thank you, Paul!  That's hugely helpful.  Looks like it's a Greinacher circuit, or possible a cascade of Greinacher cells, no?  Much obliged.

Actually, I use the Delon bridge circuit, but same difference pretty much.
