Title: New DAC day! iFi Micro iDSD Black Label
Post by: johnsonad on December 11, 2016, 10:52:37 AM
I'm a big fan of iFi's DAC's and have been using there iDSD Nano as my home system DAC for the last year or so.  Yesterday we got in their new Micro iDSD Black Label to try.   Both of these DAC's use the Burr Brown PCM1793 chip. With 24 hours of burn in it's already sounding very nice and an improvement over the Nano in the ways we wanted it to improve.  More to follow as we get to know it better.

Aaron,

Can't wait to hear more. I'm using the Nano iDSD because of your recommendation and enjoy it very much.

Give me a few days with it Brad. A few issues but with minimal burn in it's promising.

Think ifi makes terrific products. I'm currently using their tube buffer. There are times when I really like to use it. It definitely make my SS amp (which I love on its own) sound more "tubey".

I've got enough tubes in the system in various  gain stages that I'm happy with SS in the DAC. Until the perfect DAC comes along, I'm happy with something that compliments my current system at a decent price.

We recently auditioned an Aqua La Scala MkII and the little Nano did a better overall job in our system to our ears. The Micro BL may beat it out in the long term.

Aaron,

I'm not going to do anything with a DAC just yet. First I'm going to get a new sub to go with my Orcas.

I also have a Quickie on order that I'm going to use in the office, but want to try it at home first .
