Having built a Quickie without (major) mishaps, I have a Stereomour II on order.  I’ve seen some of the fun finishes folks have done.  I actually stained the Quickie’s base with reasonably good results. So for the Stereomour I’m thinking of painting the clean metal on the power transformer top and the chokes.  Maybe the mounting hardware of tube sockets as well.  I’ve stocked up on some Rustoleum primer, colour and clear gloss sprays for the purpose.  Now, please be advised that I know nothing about this.  I will be doing well if I get more spray on the parts than on me.  Anybody have any step by step suggestions as to how to proceed?

You generally want to stick to the manufacturer's instructions as closely as possible.  This means not generally mixing brands between paint, primer, and clear, and being really careful about when you apply second coats and clear coats of paint.
