I've been enjoying my Crack+Speedball for a while now with both my Drop+Sennheiser 6XX and Drop+Sennheiser 58X Jubilee. (I prefer the 6XX) Cracky is rock solid. I've found tube rolling to make a significant difference, and I have some preferences for the DAC I feed it with.

I bought a second Crack+Speedball. This one to tweak - just a bit. After listening and reading Crack stuff here and across the Web, the program I'm executing on is:

- Film coupling caps, stock value (Likely Panasonic, Audyn, or Dayton)
- Precision attenuator/potentiometer (the stock, inexpensive potentiometer is working/tracking just fine; it's quiet, smooth, no obvious channel imbalance)
- Wire input tube for 6CG7 (Having experience with many types of tubes, I don't have any issues with the 12AU7 family, but I also like the 6CG7 and 6SN7; I have a lot of all these tube types and would like to give the 6 volt tubes a try)
 - More remote consideration, a Triad PS choke, Cree diodes

My specific question is which attenuator to use ? The Alps RK47+connection PCB seems fine. I've used it, it's popular, it's a fine quality device, the price is right, but I'm leaning towards the AudioNote potentiometer as a resistive film choice (it even has convenient eyelet solder lugs). I'm also looking at some of the lower'ish cost ($25-$50) descrete resistor stepped attenuators.

So, I'm making a final choice between a resistive film and descrete resistor device. Any thoughts, input, opinions would be appreciated.

I'd appreciate any thoughts, input, opinions.

Thanks!
