Hey all, I am just starting my S3X build and am leaning toward a 4-ohm setup. I will primarily be using HD650s and ZMF Aeolus (which are also 300 ohm), but I am also planning to run the amp into a pair of 8-ohm Overnight Sensations for near-field desktop listening (maybe 30% of my listening time, max). I’m guessing that the amp will drive the OSs just fine at low volume levels at 4 ohms, but am curious whether any of you have real-world experience that would suggest otherwise. Thanks much!

I just went back and checked. I wired mine for 8 ohms to run Overnight Sensations. I think I had an opposite speaker/headphone listening ratio. Everything sounded great at 8 ohms (I had 650s as well). Didn’t have the ZMFs though.

I'd try the 4ohm taps first since they'll work better with the phones - lower noise floor - and they may also work great with the speakers in near field. Here's my comparison fwiw https://forum.bottlehead.com/index.php?topic=14741.0
