Hey gang,

Is there a way that maintains overall quality of the Mainline but gives it a little more gain?

I'm using moderately insensitive headphones (Meze Empyrean) and I find myself wishing I weren't so often running maybe one "coarse" click away from maximum volume and occasionally when I really want to blast some loud music I get up to the max.

Again, I'm not willing to give up any of the unit's overall audio quality to achieve this goal.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Best,
Ross in Denver

Extra source voltage is definitely the easiest way.  There's certainly nothing wrong with running the coarse attenuator up all they way if you aren't hearing any distortion at those levels.

There is less resistance in the signal path as the level control goes up. That's a good thing.

Thanks, gents...appreciate it. Makes me feel much better at running my Mainline near the upper end of its gain. You guys are the best.
