Looks like an MOV for lightning protection, a couple of caps to shunt line noise to ground and a noise filter that only works above 3MHz. He usually used bigass filters that worked at more like 50kHz somewhere in the design, too. This is of course from about 25 years ago and I don't recall a lot of details. Do you still have his schematics/layout notes? As I recall they were pretty extensive.
