This is my daughter Kate (left) and her best bud Kali (right). I think I'll start watching those old reruns of Married with Children and study Hal's technique for throwing all the boys who hit on his daughter out the front door.

Your daughter has an absolutely delightful smile!

You may want to reconsider modeling your response after Al Bundy, though; IIRC, he was none too successful...

Scary stuff dude!
I can't imagine what it would be like to have to smile and say welcome to some freakoid that comes to the door to pick up your daughter for a night out!
I guess doing that with us Bottlehead geeks is good practice.

Thank you. Between the two kids the orthodontists around here have covered several months worth of Porsche payments.

Too late for the intimidation, everyone knows you're a teddy-bear - ask Eileen how her dad handled all the suitors before you came along.

At this stage the best thing a parent can do is get out of the kids way and trust  - no doubt being raised in the Schmalle household, Kate's probably more than well enough prepared to take care of herself.

If not, we know you know "some guys"

Hah! Having 3 daughters, with only the soon to be 16 year-old left I have learned to deal with it. Like I was telling you Doc, just do all of the catering for the Valentine Day party and all is cool.

To be honest, I prefer that my daughters have their boyfriends over rather than their girl friends. Not having a son, I usually end up treating the boys like they were my son. My daughters boyfriend is a pretty good kid, and we actually watch movies together, make fun of the illogical women folk, and he gets a kick out me showing him my guitars or latest DIY builds.

She's a looker for sure, but not to worry. As long as you have had a consistent message while she was growing up, you'll always be with her; even when you're not.

Be polite, but ignore them...they will think you are a strange old man. If she brings one home you really don't like, slip out to the garage and crank your chainsaw. Then come back in and give him an uncomfortably long stare and evil grin.

Seriously, you have done your job by now and raised her correctly. She understands that it is her responsibility to do the right things, but you will always be there for her.
My daughter turns 21 in a couple months and we have been blessed.

Although I do keep a track hoe that will dig a 40' deep hole parked behind the house and tell them..."they will never find you, they will never miss you!" ;>D

You might just end up with a guy who wants a go with your guns as well as your daughter.

Seriously, my kids are girl (22) and boy (24). My approach was to hope to I'd taught them enough to make sensible choices of friends of either sex and give them a reasonable measure of freedom. (My yardstick was "What was I doing at that age and did it do me any harm?") They seem to have turned out OK although I sometimes wonder if they'll ever leave home.

Hey Doc,
Check out that series on TV called "Lie to me". Not sure of the actors name but  I think I'd be just as difficult/watchful/wary of any young man looking to date my daughter or niece. Best of luck!

Doc -  I think our kids are about the same age, and like your daughter, my daughter has an older brother. In my case, the older brother can be a better monitor than papa - plus brothers tend know more of the boys around town.
Funny (at least to me) story. Recently, a guy wanted to take my daughter out; and asked my son if it was ok.
