Hi All -
I've been lurking here a few months now, and am planning to migrate my decent SS system (Emotiva, Adcom, Kef) to analog/tube audio. I was looking at the SEX, Foreplay and Stereomour kits, and wondering if anyone nearby would consider allowing a DIY newbie to come audition their builds? I'd be interested in hearing any 2A3 or 300B builds or other tube gear, and am also very curious about DIY high efficiency speakers.
If you're a helpful and generous soul, and not too far from zip 10925, please drop me a pm and perhaps we can set up a meet.

Thanks!!

Good idea!  I always suggest just this.  Be a good guest, take beer.  Not too much for the drive home.  I expect you won't believe what you hear.

Thanks, Grainger, good idea. The beer's on me - if there are any takers, please name your preferred brew.

I also offer the opportunity for interested Bottleheads to hear what newly refoamed Kef 104/2 speakers sound like when driven by Adcom SS 325w RMS into 4 ohms. Truly amazing speakers. And with the recent addition of an Emotiva preamp, the system has become extraordinarily sensitive, revealing singer's breaths, fingers touching the strings of acoustic bass, and a wash of reverb after short decays. This pre dramatically exposes - for better or worse - the sonic qualities of  each recording.  I'm amazed at what Emotiva offers for such small expense, and will likely pick up their CD player as well. All this on my anticipated journey into the land of tubes!

I'll likely be building a whole new system, it seems. Thanks for listening.

Thought I'd bump this up in case anyone nearby missed it. I'm very close to West Milford, NJ and Monroe, NY if there are any Bottleheads nearby who would grant me an earful. Thanks!

It looks like it would be a three hour plus drive for you, but you would be welcome to come to the next Bottleneck meet in Newark, Delaware on Saturday, October 22.

Here are some photos from last year's October meet at Fritz's place. Usually we have some Bottlehead gear at each meet.

Thanks very much for the invite - your meet looks to be a great time for all. As tempting as it is, I was hoping to find a Bottlehead or tube DIYer a bit closer to home!

I'm sure there are folks nearby in either Orange or Rockland County NY, or Northern NJ who might enjoy showing off their sound systems and enlightening a tube newbie. I'll still build myself a tube system eventually, but I would hugely benefit from some viewing, listening and guidance. I suspect my expectations require some tweaking :)

I appreciate your invite! Sure looks like fun.
