I usually use solder wick. I have the plunger as well but rarely use it. The solder wick starts to oxidize pretty quickly and gets hard to work with. I cut a piece, grab it with pliers, dip it in solder paste, apply some heat to get the paste melted. It soaks into the wick. Now this think works like a sponge. It is cardas solder paste which does not require clean up which is very convenient. This procedure also preps the spot nicely for whatever gets soldered back in place.
